Round 3 of the McLaren Trophy Championship took place at Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium, as part of the prestigious CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa event.
The weekend started well, with Josh securing pole position for Race 1 and handing the car over to Sam in a strong position. After completing the driver change, they retained the lead. Sam extended the gap during his stint, pulling ahead by seven seconds and setting multiple purple sectors finishing the race on the top step.
Sam qualified on the front row for Race 2 and had taken the lead by the first corner. Unfortunately, after defending the lead throughout the first half of the race, the safety car was deployed, eliminating the gap he had built. While lapping under safety car conditions, a fault in the car’s fuel pump loom forced Sam to pull over and restart the car multiple times, before eventually retiring the car with Josh behind the wheel.
Next stop Nurburgring at the end of August.
