From the get-go on Friday practice, gremlins took away from the cars’ running. As the team wanted to be sure the car was perfect for the race, they couldn’t have anticipated what was coming.
Although the pace was good, Sam’s fastest lap was taken off him in qualifying, already putting him on the back foot. After having to avoid a car that didn’t get off the line, he had his work cut out. Sam got his head down and was closing the gap to the leading pack, at some points by half a second a lap. Just as they were in attacking distance and vying for a podium, a fuel pump solenoid failure resulted in a complete loss of power, forcing the car into the pit lane and taking away their championship hopes.
The standings were tight ahead and behind, leaving no room for anything to go wrong. Unfortunately, it did, out of no fault of the team or the drivers. Despite it being a very disappointing end to the season, it’s hard to look past the successes Sam and Josh have had and the records that have been broken.
